April 22, 2022 marks the day where about 1 billion people worldwide celebrate by volunteering, organizing events for growing environmental awareness, and...gardening! That's right, millions people around the world will be planting trees today to improve the planet.

I have not celebrated Earth Day in the past. It just was not on my radar. It seemed like a secular holiday, and frankly, I plant something almost everyday! So, I had not really looked into the roots of the movement until today. What I have learned has helped me decide that Earth Day will be something I acknowledge from now on. It seems worthwhile to point out the things we all have in common. Certainly, this planet is something we all have in common.
Mankind has made a lot of progress in understanding lifecycles, soil biology, re-forestation, and sustainable farming techniques since 1970. Our approach to land and resource management seems to be improving with each passing season. However, there will always be room for improvement in our understanding and our cultural practices to manage the planet better. I'm always interested in hearing about those things - but I will never try to shame someone into changing their behavior.
So, today is "officially" a day where humans recognize that we all live in the same air, and eat from the same earth. We share this little blue-green marble and it is wisdom for us to seek harmony.
Now, go plant something you want more of.
